INTRODUCTION

When children refuse to eat this would stress out the parents, especially if this continues day after day. Although it is true, that 'when children are hungry they will ask for food', there were moments where we had to somehow see our daughter have some food inside her little fragile body. But just imagine how we felt when the little food Rebecca ate, caused her so much pain. She would have cramps and bloating, screaming with tummy aches, she would then start itching under her arms, then her knees, then her face and her eyes would drive her crazy. Before she goes to bed diarrhoea would waiting for her. In pain, uncomfortable, dehydrated and sore she goes to bed and wakes up in the morning with the sheets covered in blood, her arms with no skin left on it, dry blood under her finger nails, a shocking red face and sore eyes that you can hear them screaming.

Lactose.co.uk started in 2000 with the main aim to help parents or sufferers like Rebecca and ourselves, her parents. As I went with my research I also discovered about my intolerance. Rebecca showed symptoms of both allergy and lactose intolerance so this was making the issue very difficult for people to understand. By that time I had not met a single doctor that new about lactose intolerance and even worse I was told that there is no such milk allergy!

Lactose.co.uk has come a long way and today it is one of the most hit web site concerning Lactose intolerance and milk allergies. I have added more and more information but I am not finished yet. I will be doing a big update this year including further information and research. I will add more topics including Colitis, Celiac Disease, Science section and more truth about MILK.

After I discovered the existence of digestive enzymes, which have changed my eating habits completely, being able to eat and drink dairy products as much as I want I made them available on the website. Today I remain the only person to be able to ship all my products to all over the world. There are no more barriers and everyone can enjoy symptom free, painless dairy products eating.

However, as from September 2004 due to the increase in the numbers of orders, I started buying the products in big bulks from BioCare at a discounted price. In order to do this I had to set up a limited company, and so I formed the company Sciemed (UK) Ltd. Now you can enjoy all digestive enzymes at heavily reduced prices, in fact the lowest compared to anywhere in the high street or on the net. In the meantime I continue with my satisfaction helping people through my web site.

ABOUT ME
I possess a Masters degree in Science (MSc) by the University of Westminster (London), I have the Fellowship in the Institute of Biomedical Scientist (UK), I am Chartered Scientist, a registered Biomedical Scientist (UK) and a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (Malta). I have been working at NHS hospitals in London since 1997 in Immunology, Haematology and Transfusion departments. However, I also have training in Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry and Blood Manufacturing products.

...This continued for months and months, causing so much tension in the family, so much pain to us the parents and so much running for advise. We tried this, and we tried that. Rebecca was allergic to Aloe Vera, to anti allergy creams, to neutral soaps, and to almost anything that was meant to help her. Fortunately Vaseline was helpful to keep her crocodile skin a bit moist and anti-histamine was helpful to control her itching.

Doctors were of no help, and other people who have tried to help did not succeed. Against my will her mother tried Chinese medicine... but the results were very  the opposite.

At the age of 6 Rebecca hit rock bottom. The allergy has taken over so much that her half her face was affected. It swell so much that she look disfigured, one eye was around 1 cm higher than the other, her face looked sideways and her cheeks started to shed off the skin. She became the target at school... being teased as the eczema girl. Thankfully the school authorities looked after this issue very well.

I took things in my hands, as by that time her mother was only following the doctor's advise, which was getting us nowhere. First thing that we stopped giving her was milk. I had been suspecting it for a very long time, but the doctor insisted that it is silly to stop a 4-5 year old from having milk.

In 48 hours her face got back to normal shape.

By the next day we noticed that when she drinks orange juice her face comes red and start scratching. So all citrus foods were removed from her diet. During some medical research I made I found reviews claiming that some of the red coloured foods, such as strawberries, tomatoes, cherries etc have a protein that mimics some allergens. Hence, the consumption of these products was also avoided.

Rebecca's skin was now clearing, her face had a colour of life in it and the diarrhoea nearly disappeared. However, more things were discovered as she continued on the strict diet. Soy milk, eggs, coloured foods and certain additives were also banned. Eventually, Rebecca for 12 months she was only allowed to eat pork, chicken, green vegetables, apples, green grapes and could only drink water. Luckily later on I found that fizzy Cola did not affect her. This was a surprise, because other fizzy drinks and surprisingly fizzy water make her itch.

So for a year Rebecca looked beautiful, but now it was time food is introduced to her gently. Little by little for a week each, food was introduced and the only things she had to keep away from were eggs (her favourite food), some fizzy drinks, coloured foods, especially sweets and citrus. Soy remained a problem but she did not like it anyway.

Rebecca was feeling well in herself. From a very little girl, fragile and so skinny she started to grow tall and putting on weight. Her skin now nearly cleared she could eat nearly everything.

This year (2005) she is eleven and her crocodile skin has been away for two years. She has come out of nearly all her allergies. She can enjoy her eggs, her strawberries, her orange juice and the rest.

And by the way... she drinks milk as much as she likes now... so can I,  thanks to the Lactase drops.
